Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa is a beautiful ancient city located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka, about 200 km away from the capital Colombo. The city was the capital of Sri Lanka from the 11th to the 13th century AD, during the reign of the Chola dynasty. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its well-preserved ruins and impressive architecture attracting visitors from around the world. Aside from the ancient ruins, Polonnaruwa is also known for its beautiful natural surroundings. The city is located near the shore of the massive Parakrama Samudra, a man-made lake that provides irrigation for the surrounding rice fields.
